Other Resources Available
City of Lancaster’s Home Repair Programs
The City of Lancaster manages three separate programs to help homeowners, renters, and tenants ensure their homes remain safe, accessible, and healthy: Lead Hazard Control, Critical Repair, and Healthy Homes. Each program is unique and has its own qualifications, but you can find more information about each program here and the link to the application here. Please reach out to us or the City if you need any assistance in applying to these programs!
211
The United Way of Lancaster County runs Pennsylvania 211 East, which provides free and confidential referrals, support, and information to individuals in Lancaster County and the surrounding area in need of assistance. You can find information during emergency situations, such as housing and mental health crises, as well as services relating to childcare, after-school programs, food banks, elder care, basic needs, health services and more. To connect with a resource specialist, you can dial 211 on your phone (or 855-567-5341), text your zip code to 898211, fill out a form on their website, or use their directory to search for your needed service.
211 currently serves as the lead agency for all homeless and critical housing-based intake screenings for Lancaster County.
LIHEAP Home Heating & Energy Assistance
The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), a program of the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services, helps families living on low incomes pay their heating bills in the form of a cash grant. Households in immediate danger of being without heat can also qualify for crisis grants. The cash grant is a one-time payment sent directly to the utility company/fuel provider to be credited on your bill. These grants range from $200 to $1,000 based on household size, income, and fuel type. Please see their website for income eligibility limits.
You can apply online using COMPASS, the online tool for Pennsylvanians to apply for and manage health and human service programs, or on paper: You can download a paper application, print it, fill it out, and return it to your local county assistance office.
