Community Education Garden – The Cabbage Patch!

Want to grow (or learn how to) your own fresh produce? Join our FREE community garden and be a part of a collective that is making healthy, nutritious food and building relationships with neighbors at the same time! Growing your own food takes space and good lighting (which not all of us have at our homes) and money to purchase the supplies (shovels, spades, gloves, soil, plants, etc.). We have taken care of all those logistics – which leaves you with the fun of getting outside, playing in the dirt, and learning the ins and outs of growing and maximizing harvest for many different types of food!

How does it work?

For starters, you do not need to have prior gardening experience to join this group! You also don’t have to have any gardening supplies. We will provide on-site supplies and instructions, so you learn as you go! If you do have gardening experience – that’s wonderful too! You can help show newbie neighbors the ropes or work more independently (depending on your preference)! This is a garden for all skill levels to grow together!

What’s the schedule?

We will have at least one day a week (same day and time) where experienced gardeners will be on-site for a workday. During this time, they will give an overview of what’s growing, what plant maintenance is needed (ex. What needs planted, pruned, watered, thinned, trellis’, de-bugged, weeded, harvested, etc), and step-by-step instructions on how to do it. These workdays will be a time to play in the dirt, build friendships with neighbors and take home fresh produce (and reduce your grocery bill).

We also have our two first planting dates scheduled!

  1. Direct Seed Sowing & Building/Filling our Raised Garden Beds – Saturday, April 25th starting at 1pm (Rain Date: Sunday, April 26th at 1pm) – at 285 Conestoga St.
  2. Starter Plants and Pollinator Garden Planting – Saturday, May 16th starting at 11am (Rain Date: Sunday, May 17th at 11am) – at 285 Conestoga St.

If you’re not sure if this garden is for you – we STRONGLY encourage you to join one (or both) of these planting days and see what it’s like! The goal of our garden is to give neighbors access to see how our food grows, eat fresh food and eliminate any barriers to getting started (including if you don’t have space for a garden at your home)! If you’re interested in joining our community garden, helping us plant in the Spring, or learning more – email Jacquie at Jacquie@WeAreTenfold.org.
